Fish at marked spots with the right tackle
The remake has 26 fish varieties. At a fishing spot, choose a rod and bait combination to determine which fish you can catch. Some catches need another fish as bait.
Get your equipment and land a fish
- Speak to Lloyd from the Fishing Guild during the airliner journey to receive a fishing rod and Fishing Notebook.
- In southern Ruan, head toward the Ravens’ quest marker. Lloyd appears as you approach and teaches you to fish.
- When catching a fish, follow the HOLD prompt and make the requested left/right adjustments or additional button presses for your control layout.
Upgrade your rod and fill the notebook
Better rods expand the range of fish you can obtain and make the fishing minigame easier. To find a missing variety, work through the fish available at a spot. Saving and reloading can conserve bait, but reloading also respawns fish already caught in that spot.
Catches are automatically recorded in the Fishing Notebook with detailed information you can check. Filling out the notebook earns item rewards.
Return to old fishing spots in Chapter 8
- Four varieties become obtainable when you revisit earlier fishing spots during Chapter 8. The return journey also gives you another chance at fish missed in each region.
- Granakor appears in several places. For Gigangora and Blue Marlin, visit the Gull Seaside Road beach between Mercia Orphanage and Ruan; Blue Marlin is exclusive to that spot.
- Bring the Lakelord II rod to Valleria Shore in Bose for the final fish.
Preparing bait
- Can another fish be used as bait?
- Yes. Some of the 26 varieties require other fish as bait, so your available catches also help you pursue new varieties.
